Below is the process of News Analysiation and Data categorization

Determining data requirements

The requirements for the modelling methodologies used to classify data are the most relevant details in this data. These standards, led by the project’s key objectives, were to be put in stone before any labelling procedure could begin. Binary classifiers were employed to detect hate speech and click bait, while multi-class categorization was utilized to detect political bias. Guidelines on classifying a given data category were built and agreed on based on previously existing rules and procedures. Although input formats such as single words, sentences, paragraphs, or entire articles were possible, input constraints of particular models must also be considered.

Phase 2: Data selection

Manually labelling data takes time and effort. To save time and money, we carefully chose the data sets to be marked so that they had an ideal number of samples of each classification group.

The raw data set for our experiment comprised around 240.000 news articles gathered from the internet. As a result, labelling every sentence in those articles proved impossible. Instead, we used several methods to select a subset of articles for each categorization challenge and labelled only those unique subsets.

A hierarchical two-step prediction approach was utilized to construct a balanced subset of news items with neutral, politically biased sentences or politically skewed to the right. The raw data set of news items was divided into “political,” “non-political,” and “undetermined topic” articles, and 1000 randomly selected extra news articles were attached to balance the overall subset of reports.

Phase 3: Data preprocessing and cleaning

An exploratory data analysis (EDA) can provide light on the issues that need to be addressed and lead to the data pretreatment and cleaning process. An experimental investigation of our raw data collection revealed that all articles contained many HTML tags due to data scraping from the internet. To ensure the maximum possible prediction accuracy the ML models. afterward, the data used to train the models must be labelled as precisely as possible. To do this, we established explicit definitions of what “hate speech,” “political bias to the left,” “right,” or “center,” and “click bait” meant to us. We also aimed to suppress the labeler’s hidden biases to achieve accurate and consistent labelling.
